THE PROBLEM
Many gym-goers understand that post-workout nutrition supports recovery, but they often make ingredient choices based on taste rather than nutritional value. Without guidance, they may build smoothies that are calorie-dense and high in sugar but low in the hydration and protein needed for effective muscle repair. This knowledge gap can undermine their fitness goals and slow recovery after intense workouts. Learners need an engaging way to explore how their ingredient choices directly impact post-workout recovery.
THE SOLUTION
This interactive Storyline 360 scenario helps gym-goers build recovery-friendly smoothies through guided decision-making and personalized feedback. Learners progress through three decision points (choosing a base, selecting an add-in, and picking a protein) with each choice contributing to a cumulative score that determines their smoothie’s recovery effectiveness.
The experience uses the fictional brand Momentum Fitness to create an authentic, immersive context. Rather than presenting nutrition facts in a traditional format, the scenario encourages exploration and experimentation. Learners receive immediate feedback after each choice and see a personalized results screen that explains how well their smoothie supports recovery based on their selections.
THE PROCESS
I used the ADDIE model to structure my approach. During analysis, I identified the key performance gap: learners knew smoothies could support recovery but lacked practical knowledge about which ingredients were most effective. Through action mapping, I pinpointed the essential decisions learners needed to make (selecting a base, add-in, and protein) and designed the scenario around those three choice points. I developed a storyboard and content plan to sequence the experience, then built the interactive prototype in Storyline 360. Throughout development, I refined the visual design, scoring logic, and feedback messaging to create a cohesive learning experience.
Action Map (Miro)
During the analysis phase, I used Miro to map out the learner’s decision-making process and identify the actionable steps required to build a recovery-friendly smoothie. I emphasized what learners needed to do (focusing on essential skills rather than just what they needed to know). This process helped me prioritize the three key decision points (base, add-in, protein) and ensure alignment between learner choices and the performance goal of building an effective post-workout smoothie.
Content Planning (Google Sheets)
I sequenced the learning experience by organizing decisions, options, and score values into a structured spreadsheet. This content plan allowed me to map out each slide’s purpose, determine which interactions would be multiple-choice or clickable, and assign point values to each ingredient based on its nutritional benefit for recovery. By planning the feedback messaging for each choice, I ensured that variables would be applied accurately to track learners’ cumulative scores and deliver personalized results.
Course Development (Articulate Storyline + Canva)
I built the interactive experience in Storyline 360, combining custom visuals, variable-based scoring, and layered feedback to create a meaningful learning experience.
Key Design Features:
Branded Visual Identity → builds learner connection
Custom logo and color palette created for the fictional Momentum Fitness brand
Consistent typography and iconography reinforced brand presence throughout
Interactive Decision Points → promotes active engagement
Clickable ingredient options with custom hover and selected states encouraged exploration
Variables tracked each learner's choices across the three decision points
Layered Feedback → personalizes learning
Correct/incorrect feedback layers provided immediate reinforcement after each choice
Feedback explained why each ingredient supported or hindered recovery
Variable-Based Scoring → drives personalized outcomes
Each ingredient was assigned a score value based on its recovery benefit
Variables calculated a cumulative total that determined the learner's final results tier
Tiered Results Screen → provides meaningful feedback
Three outcome levels (Excellent, Great, Needs Work) displayed based on total score
Personalized messaging helped learners understand how their choices impacted recovery
